CARRI HAMMETT
Carri
Hammett is the orginal owner of Coldwater Collaborative, a charming lakeside
yarn shop in Excelsior, MN. She started the shop in 2002 and spent seven years collaborating with the most wonderful employees and
customers as together they explored the addictive and satisfying world of
knitting, crochet, and fiber. Along the way, Carri wrote three books and
designed oodles of fun knitwear for the shop. As her writing and designing
became more time consuming Carri realized she would need to choose between
the running the shop and being an author. Fortunately, Cynthia Cushing an
avid knitter, gifted teacher and friend of the shop asked if she could
become the new owner of Coldwater Collaborative. Cynthia purchased the shop
in May, 2010.
BOOKS BY CARRI HAMMETT
First
published in 2006, Scarves and Shawls for Yarn Lovers has become a
knitting classic. Twenty different designs, each with a variation, teach the
knitter which yarns are the best for a wide variety of designs and stitches.
The easy patterns make the most of yarn combinations that showcase different
textures, colors, and fibers. The step-by-step directions are easy to
understand and the book is appropriate for both new knitters and experienced
yarn lovers.
Ready,
Set, Knit Cables (2007) presents twenty cable patterns with
detailed directions. The cables can be practised by making individual
swatches. In addition, ten innovative projects such as a laptop cover,
decorator pillow, and messenger bag beautifully incorporate the cables that
are taught in the book. If you've always wanted to master cables, this is a
perfect book for you. If you're an experienced cable knitter you will still
have a wonderful time making the projects and trying new cable patterns.
Part
reference book, part design book, Mittens and Hats for Yarn Lovers
(2010) should be in every knitter's library. The book has detailed
directions for both hats and mittens in a variety of gauges and sizes.
Detailed directions make it easy for even a novice knitter to make a simple
hat or mittens from any yarn. Building on the basic techniques, Carri's
innovative designs show the knitter how to create interesting designs for
the whole family.
Available
in December, 2011, Carri's newest book is written with the absolute
beginning knitter in mind. Knitting 101 uses clear,
step-by-step directions, hundreds of photographs and an accompanying DVD to
teach knitting. Carri's clear writing style allows the new knitter to gain
confidence without frustration. The designs in the book let knitters use
their new found skills to create fun and useful items.
